A Closer Look at Landscape Painting

Find TWO LANDSCAPE paintings that have been created with oil or acrylic paint, that are unique and interesting to you (from a magazine, web, etc.).

Look where you found strategies for showing depth in paintings:

  1. In a word document, insert the LANDSCAPE PAINTINGS; please be sure it is at least 4" x 6" (if your image is found in a magazine or newspaper, please cut and paste into your sketchbook).

  2. Include all information you find on the work (title, artist, material, size, etc.) You must include your source, using MLA format. NO WIKIPEDIA OR GOOGLE IMAGE SEARCH, PLEASE.

  3. Type a thorough description (a paragraph of at least 6 sentences) of the painting (a visual inventory of the work) and how the artist painted it. Please be specific. Write as if you are describing to a good friend over the phone, who has never seen this painting.

  4. Explain the color scheme used. Be specific and name the dominant colors used.

  5. In addition, please state which strategy (the dominant/obvious one) is used to show depth in the landscape.

  6. REMEMBER, you are doing this for TWO different images.
